Finally, there are signs that after two years of decline, Silicon Valley high-tech may be heading for a recovery. A recent article in the Mercury News brought welcome news:

"Forecasters for Economy.com have predicted that Santa Clara County's output will grow this quarter for the first time in more than two years, and executives at some of the area's flagship companies, including Intel and Cisco Systems, have said sales are rising."

As the economy recovers and demand for goods and services grow, consultants provide short-term value-add services to businesses to help meet their challenges — ranging from engineering to financial advising and marketing to web design.

In this month's newsletter, we begin with our 3rd annual consulting rate survey highlighting trends in rates, specialties and characteristics of top earning Silicon Valley consultants. You'll hear from industry executive, Esther Kuijver, Director of QuickBooks Industry Solutions at Intuit, who shares her unique recipe for successful consulting relationships. Also, you'll learn about a panic-proof plan to successfully bring on a consultant in the middle of a quickly sinking project from WIC member Lee Caraher, marketing communications consultant. And, as testimony from satisfied clients, we've included a success story about Silicon Valley SCORE who revamped its web site design and navigation with the help of a WIC web site design consultant, Marianne McGlynn.

Whenever you need outside expertise, we urge you to search our no-fee database with hundreds of seasoned consultants in a wide range of specialties. We hope you'll enjoy this month's articles and information.

Sincerely,

Kate Purmal
